Sapphire Shino Chawan
There is obviously no such thing as a sapphire shino. But if there were, this is what it would look like. This is our house dark clay body, hand-formed and carved into a tea bowl, and then coated with our copper red glaze. In this particular firing, the copper red wasn’t particularly strong which means that more of the cobalt in the clay body came through in the final glaze, rendering a glaze color that is a deep sapphire blue or purple with flecks and streaks of red throughout. It wasn’t the effect I intended, but I wasn’t sad with the result.
