Hog Wallow Chawan

This pot was made with wild clay gathered from a wild boar wallow on a ranch in Northern California. The clay was unprocessed after gathering, and contained feldspar chunks, sand, miscellaneous rocks, and a variety of organic inclusions. The roughness of the clay translated directly to the roughness of the thrown form, and of the finished pot. As the organics and other things burned out and reacted to the firing, the surface of the pot developed voids and cracks. The exterior of the pot is unglazed and the interior has a standard shino liner. It was fired to Cone 12 in a wood kiln located on the same ranch where the wild clay was collected.
