Hand-carved, Copper Red Chawan
This pot was was hand formed and carved from our house black stoneware clay body, glazed in our copper red, and fired to Cone 10 in a reduction atmosphere in our Blaauw kiln. Our copper red glaze paired with this clay body, and fired properly, produces a deep, crimson red breaking to blue where thin. I left parts of the outside of the pot unglazed so that you get the contrast of the glossy, crimson red, with the matte black of the raw pot. The effect of the facets and the glaze makes this pot look a bit like a gemstone.
